Mandatory Tour to Cedar Farm

The Mandatory Tour on Thursday, June 17, 2010 takes us to Cedar Farm which is a beautifully restored 1837 antebellum home that overlooks the scenic Ohio River.  The plantation encompasses a meticulously restored main house, schoolhouse, icehouse, tenant houses, cookhouse, livestock, and tobacco barns. Your hosts will be outfitted in period clothing while giving a knowledgeable tour of the climate controlled plantation house.  We are so fortunate and grateful to have arranged the viewing of this home.  You have probably never experienced anything like this restoration and is a must see!

The tour is 85 miles one way as you wind through gently rolling hills of Southern Indiana passing through the farming communities of Chambersburg, Hardinsburg, Palmyra, and Dogwood.  As we drive though the Hoosier National Forest, you will see vistas of hardwoods punctuated by sycamores, streams, and lakes.  We will pass through Historic Corydon, the former capital of Indiana.  The suggested return tour back to French Lick is shorted by about 18 miles.

We will be following the route taken by Morgan’s Raiders during the Civil War, one of two Confederate incursions into “the North” during the war.  You will see the many quaint shops featuring antiques and Southern Indiana artists.  As we approach the small town of Laconia, the Ohio River will be close.  Traveling along high bluffs overlooking the Ohio, you will see numerous barges plying the river as they have since the settlement of the Indiana Territory.  Frequently, a stern wheeler is spotted from the scenic overlook at Leavenworth.

The entire tour is arranged on excellent secondary roads giving you a leisurely tour of some of the most unique and grand scenery, architecture, and hospitality to be found in our Hoosier State.  Viewing and experiencing the history and grandeur of this house is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Please join us for a lovely day at Cedar Farm!
